Advanced Web Dev Final, part 2
1. In creatign ym website for the Classics Club, used regular, normal tables mostly so that the information would be organized and easy to follow. I was going to use layers a few times, but decided againist it because I had learned from past websites on tripod that usung layers sometime interfears with the banner on top and can disrupt the overall look and feel of the page. I also decided agianst using frames because I didn't think there was enough information on the club to make the frames feature totally useful.
2 The biggest challange in creating this website was collecting information for the content. Being a member of the Classics Club, I knew alot of info. regarding it, but in order to get the history and useful links for the site I had to do reaserch. By asking my friends whi are also members in the club, talking with Mr. Vertucci, and by doing searches online @ other Classical sites, I was able to take the best of what I knew and put my club site together.
3. If I had a chance to do this project over again I would have maybe learned other tools on Dreamweaver, like more java scripts and other codes so that I could really make the site come alive. I would have also maybe taken the time to to sign up for a chatroom on a free server or something in order to increase the feel of my online community. Lastly, if I could do this project over again, I would get other peoples opinions on the site as it is comming along so that I could work on creating the easiest, most informative Classics Club site Cathedral has ever seen. Other than that there is not more else I would change.
4. Having created 2 online communities, one fake and one real, my perception has changed somewhat. I have learned that it takes alot of research and time and patience to put a good online community together. Besides the overall work of getting info. for the site, creating a good look and feel, and then putting it all together, it was strangthened in me the idea that honesty and safty is so important on the world wide web. When you create an online community, it is important to have th epeople you are creating it for in mind, because if you don't create it for the sudience, they won't come.
5. The site I used to describe the look and feel is xanga.com. The look and feel of the main pagenis very warm and inviting. It really feels like an online community. It is also very easy to navigate around because the log in button is above the fold on themain page. Another thing that makes the index page so welcomming, is that they have snippits of member's entries so that you can see what exactly people do on the site. And lastly, another neat thing about xanga's main page is that it is updated regularrly with snippits of the latest posters entries in a box on the side, so a person browsing knows that the site is going on right now, which makes it feel all the more like the truely real club that it is.
